On the right side of the phone is the power button and just above it is the awesome slider. There is a volume rocker at the left side of the phone and a secondary microphone at the top. The bottom of the phone has a Dual sim slot, a primary microphone, a USB port and the speaker grill. There is a 1 year manufacturer warranty for device and 6 months manufacturer warranty for in-box accessories including batteries from the date of purchase

Variants

The phone is available in 4 different colors; Onyx black, Glacial Green, Interstellar Glow and Polar Silver. However, in India the smartphone is sold in Onyx Black and Glacial Green color variants. It is available in 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB configurations. Note that the storage is not expandable via microSD cards.

Protection

The front and back of the phone is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and the side of the phone is built with aluminum frame which will take scratches very easily if not put in a case. The Smartphone does not have IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

Display

It has a 6.55 inch FHD+ fluid AMOLED 90Hz display panel with a punch-hole design. The media consumption experience is great and it supports HDR 10 videos. The touch response is quick and the smartphone’s curved display looks really cool and attractive. The display clearly adjusts the light and makes content consumption enjoyable even under direct sunlight.

Performance

The performance of the smartphone is equivalent to the OnePlus 8 Pro and is awesome and powerful. The Smartphone operates on Android 10 and runs on OxygenOS 10.0 UI at top. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Octa-core processor which is built on 7nm architecture. It’s powerful chipset handles heavy softwares and games with ease. PUBG can be played smoothly with this mobile with no frame drops at all. So, OnePlus 8 Pro is a gift to all the heavy gamers and PUBG lovers. The phone also has an Adreno 650 game booster for providing the best gaming experience. The phone warms up quickly on heavy usage which is a thing that OnePlus has to improve.

Cameras

The phone has a triple rear camera set-up and single front camera. The smartphone has a 48MP f/1.8 Sony IMX586 primary sensor, 16MP f /2.2 (116 degrees) Wide angle camera and a 2MP f /2.4 macro sensor for close-up shots. There is a 16MP selfie camera in the front with a punch-hole design at the left corner of the screen. The camera features 4k video capturing, dual LED flash, HDR, and panaroma

Battery

The phone packs a 4300mah battery that supports 30T warp charging which charges the phone upto 50% in just 22 mins. Wireless charging feature that could be seen in OnePlus 8 pro cannot be seen in OnePlus 8 and the company has reduced the capacity of the battery too to cut cost.

Sound and Sensors

Sensors like in-display finger print sensor, accelerometer, gyrometer, proximity and compass are available. The sound quality is great and has stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos support. The 3.5 mm headphone is absent which is a sad news for many. However, the USB Type-c port can be used for plugging the earphones or the user can switch to wireless headphones.

Bottom Line

The phone is one of the best in the price range but has nothing special when compared to many of its competitors. So, the buyer has many options other than this smartphone to choose. The smartphone is awesome with its solid performance, great cameras and image processing, awesome display quality, good build and in-hand feel. Though the company has excluded some features like Wireless charging and IP certification, the phone is justified in this price range. In my opinion, the phone is great and is not inferior to any of its competitors.
