Build and design
The Poco M3 Pro is thin (8.9mm) and weighs 190g, most of which comes from the 5,000mAh large battery.
Dimensions of the Poco M3 Pro are 161.8 x 75.3 x 8.9 mm. The smartphone is dual sim and supports expandable storage (shared/dedicated will only be known after release). It is sold in three color variants : Poco Yellow, Power Black, Cool Blue
Display
The Xiaomi Poco M3 Pro has a 6.5″ IPS LCD 90Hz FHD+ display with 400 nits typical brightness and 500 nits (HBM) brightness. With a ppi pixel density of 405, the screen is CG3 protected. Also, the smartphone has a 20:9 aspect ratio, 180Hz touch sampling rate and 83.7% screen-to-body ratio.
Performance and UI
The Xiaomi Poco M3 Pro runs Android 11 with MIUI 12 on top. The MIUI 12.5 updates will be received soon. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G (7nm) Octa-core (2×2.2 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55) SoC. The GPU is Mali-G57 MC2.
The Dimensity 700 5G is the same processor on the Realme 8 5G which performs well for its price.
Cameras
There is a 48MP AI Triple camera on the Poco M3 Pro including the 48MP f/1.8 primary sensor and a pair of 2MP f/2.4 macro and depth sensors. Just like the Realme 8 5G there is no Ultra-wide angle lens whatsoever. The phone captures 4K@30 fps and 1080p@30/60/120 fps which is great. The quality of 4K videos is quite questionable at this price point, because we have always preferred 1080p over 4K in terms of improved video stability and quality.
Then there is a single 8MP selfie shooter in the front which can record 1080p@30 fps. It features HDR mode while the main camera features HDR, panorama and Dual-Tone Dual-LED flash.
Memory and Storage
The Poco M3 Pro is offered in two variants: 4GB + 64GB / 6GB + 128GB. The storage is expandable via the microSDXC slot.
The storage type is fast UFS 2.2 and RAM type is LPDDR4X. A standard storage type at this price point is UFS 2.1 but the Poco M3 Pro comes with a slightly faster UFS 2.2 for some good reasons.
Battery
The Poco M3 Pro packs a 5,000mAh large battery with 18W fast charging support which completely charges the smartphone in about 140 minutes. Yes, the charging is quite slow, but the 5,000mAh capacity makes it feel less offending.
Connectivity
WLAN | Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot |
Bluetooth | 5.1, A2DP, LE |
GPS | Yes, with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS |
NFC | Yes (market/region dependent) |
Infrared port | Yes |
Radio | FM radio |
USB | USB Type-C 2.0 |
Sound
There are mono speakers on the Poco M3 Pro which is okay for the price. The 3.5mm headphone jack is in its place.
Sensors
Sensors on board include side-mounted fingerprint reader, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass.
Bottom Line
The smartphone is a perfect buy if it is priced Rs. 13,999 in India. If priced more, then I would recommend you to slightly push your budget and go for the Realme 7 5G which makes perfect sense for every single penny that it costs.
