Xiaomi has introduced three more smartphones into the mid range smartphone market in India. The Redmi Note 10 series smartphones are going on sale on 17th of March in Amazon. Note that none of the smartphones launching in India support 5G. While in the international market Xiaomi is planning to sell the Redmi Note 10 5G.
The exciting news is that all the Redmi Note 10 smartphones have a sAMOLED display with 60/120 Hz refresh rate. Also, there is dual stereo speakers on all the three line-ups. There is a Xiaomi Redmi 10S launching in some countries (not in India) which has a 90Hz refresh rate.
What I don’t want to see?
Though the spec sheet reads a sAMOLED screen, I doubt the quality of the screen. That’s a usual trend in the mid-range price segment. I hope Xiaomi has used the Samsung display which are usually good and display accurate colors.
Also, I hope that there are no ads and bloatware which is never going to happen. Xiaomi buyers are used to getting ads and promotional notifications; so might not be a problem for them. However, Xiaomi has claimed that with their MIUI 12.5 update users will be allowed to uninstall many of the junkware which is a bit relieving.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 10
The Redmi Note 10, the base performer in the line up is priced 16,000 Rs. and it offers an 6.43 inches FHD+ AMOLED display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 SoC (very good) and a 48MP quad camera array. Sadly the base variant has only 4GB of RAM. This would have been enough if it were Samsung device running OneUI. But having used many Xiaomi smartphones I have noticed that the RAM management on the MIUI is lacking. So, you can go with the 6GB variant if you are into multi-tasking.
The rear quad camera set-up has a 48MP primary sensor, a 8MP Ultra-wide angle lens (FOV 118 degrees) and a 2MP depth and macro lenses each.
The front selfie shooter is a 13MP in-display lens and there is Corning Gorilla glass protection 5 on the front and back. Also, the smartphone is backed up by a 5000mAh battery coupled with 33W fast charger included in the box. I would honestly tell other smartphone companies to learn from Xiaomi how to price their devices (Samsung especially). it also has the Z-axis vibration motor for strong Haptics.
The value for money is great on the spec sheet. I am curious ot test how it would be in real life. the Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 11nm is a very good processor considering the price segment where majority of the smartphones are offering wither the Qualcomm 662 or Qualcomm 665 SoC.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro
The Redmi Note 10 Pro is the most proportionate smartphone in my opinion amongst the three devices. It has the 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED screen coupled with 64MP quad camera set-up, Qualcomm snapdragon 732G SoC and 6 gigs of RAM on the base variant. It is priced Rs. 17,000 for the 6GB/128GB variant. I feel that this is the best configuration that you can get. So, I would recommend adding an extra 1000 Rs to your cart and buy the Redmi Note 10 Pro instead of the Redmi Note 10.
The rear quad camera set-up has a 64MP primary sensor, a 8MP Ultra-wide angle lens (FOV 118 degrees), a 5MP telephoto lens and a 2MP depth. The telephoto lens is a macro sensor as well.
The front selfie shooter is a 16MP in-display lens and there is Corning Gorilla glass 5 protection on the front and back. Also, the smartphone is backed up by a 5020mAh battery coupled with 33W fast charger included in the box. There are dual stereo speakers on the smartphone which is a great deal at this price point.
While we are used to getting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC in the Rs. 23,000 price segment (Samsung Galaxy M51) we are offered the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G on the Redmi Note 10 Pro priced much below than the Samsung Galaxy M51.
What are the differences on the Redmi Note 10 and Note 10 Pro?
The key difference being that the Redmi Note 10 Pro is the first smartphone at this price to come with a 6.67 inches 120Hz bigger AMOLED display. You are getting 6GB of RAM (enough) compared to the 4GB RAM on the Note 10. Also, the camera is a 64MP quad Bayer. So, it is Okay to pay extra 1000 Rs. on this.
